Family Tent Activities at the 2012 Southwest Michigan Harvest Fest

Rain or Shine!

Come and join in! There will be lots of hands-on activities, crafts, and active games for families.

Seedfolks Readers' Theatre
12:30 to 1:30 PM
This is an interactive play, adapted from a book about urban gardening. We are going to be looking for 7 readers to join in the fun. There are parts to play, and the kids will be able to craft some decorations and costumes. Then, the group will act out the book for an audience and to guide us through a book talk. It has been done recently at Farmer's Markets and events around town.

Red Clover Quilt Project
(to be scheduled)
We will provide the paper and natural paints made of local, abundant wild plants (nettle, sumac, pokeweed berries, marigold and calendula blossoms). In late September, we will lay the pictures down in the form of a quilt (at the Growing Matters Garden in Kalamazoo). We will extensively photograph the quilt, and cover the area with soil and water. Over the winter, the paper will break down and enrich the soil. In early summer 2013, sweet pink blossoms will open and roots will enrich the soil with nitrogen. The community art project invites audiences to participate in Bloodroot's message of renewal and regeneration.
