There's a lot to see, do and learn at Harvest Fest. Here's another roster of activities to fit into your day here!
Enjoy demonstrations and activities provided by Tillers International, including wheat threshing, sorghum grinding, ropemaking, oxen plowing, and hayrides.
Back for a third year, Steve Bertman and the Kalamazoo Biodiesel Cooperative will be demonstrating how easy and fun it is to make biodiesel at home. This is an excellent way to reduce your use of imported fossil fuels and start weaning yourself and your family away from gasoline.
Shawna Greenway will be on hand to discuss fermentation and ways to prepare foods with live cultures. During this demonstration, you can learn how to make your own saurkraut, kefir (a cultured milk product), kombucha tea and other foods.
The Weaver's Guild of Kalamazoo will demonstrate the crafts of spinning and weaving. Stop by throughout the day to learn about these crafts which are becoming increasingly popular and don't even rely on electricity! Very sustainable!
Learn about survival in the woods: shelter building, fire making, wild plants to eat, and water — all vital if you're lost, or if you want to walk more softly on the earth or be prepared for a harsh future.
