Throughout the day, there will be demonstrations and walks of the Tillers
grounds for your education and enjoyment.



StatueDemonstrator: Janice Marsh-Prelesnik

Granny Janny Herbs,  a division of Creative Health & Birthing Arts, is owned by herbalist, traditional midwife, and massage therapist, Janice Marsh-Prelesnik. Janice also teaches the natural healing arts of herbalism, midwifery, and massage with self-paced study guides and workshops. In the summertime Janice can be found in her gardens creating products for Granny Janny Herbs using fresh, locally grown herbs that are lovingly prepared. Janice has also authored the book, The Roots of Natural Mothering.
Fresh is Best--Create your own herbal remedies from plants in your garden. Infusions, decoctions, tinctures and salve making will be discussed.

LRHenDemonstrator: Lori Evesque

Lori Evesque has been growing herbs and vegetables organically for over 10 years. She grows a wide range of heirloom and open pollinated vegetables and many herbs.
She became interested in fermentation in the last couple years as she read about the benefits of living foods. She has been experimenting with kim-chee, sauerkraut, yogurt, kefir, komboucha (fermented tea), as well as the more well known fermented products like beer and wine. Lori will have a demonstration of her living foods at her booth: Little Red Hen Farm, throughout the day. If she's not at the booth, she'll be back soon. Lori is also on the organizing committee for the Harvest Fest.

BiodieselDemonstration: Biodiesel Demonstration

Back for a second year, Steve Bertman and the Kalamazoo Biodiesel Cooperative will be demonstrating how easy and fun it is to make biodiesel at home. This is an excellent way to reduce your use of imported fossil fuels and start weaning yourself and your family away from gasoline.

The Weaver's Guild of Kalamazoo will be represented at this year''s festival to demonstrate the crafts of spinning and weaving. Stop by throughout the day to learn about these crafts which are becoming increasingly popular and don't even rely on electricity!! Very sustainable!
